Salary: $76,086.40–$106,142.40 annually

About the Role

The City of Saint Paul Public Works Department is seeking a Safety Officer to develop and oversee workplace safety programs, deliver employee safety training, and investigate workplace accidents and hazards. This position helps ensure compliance with OSHA regulations while promoting a safe and healthy work environment across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain workplace safety and injury prevention programs.
  • Create and deliver OSHA-compliant safety training for employees.
  • Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and hazardous conditions, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain emergency management and employee safety plans.
  • Serve as the primary contact for safety-related matters with state and federal agencies, contractors, and vendors.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and implement accident prevention strategies.
  • Analyze safety data, injury trends, and workers’ compensation claims to improve workplace safety.
  • Collaborate with department leadership and participate in City-wide safety meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Four years of experience in safety program development and safety training.
  • A master’s degree in safety may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license (or equivalent out-of-state license).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety practices, and employee training.
