About the Role
The City of Saint Paul Public Works Department is seeking a Safety Officer to develop and oversee workplace safety programs, deliver employee safety training, and investigate workplace accidents and hazards. This position helps ensure compliance with OSHA regulations while promoting a safe and healthy work environment across the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain workplace safety and injury prevention programs.
- Create and deliver OSHA-compliant safety training for employees.
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and hazardous conditions, and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain emergency management and employee safety plans.
- Serve as the primary contact for safety-related matters with state and federal agencies, contractors, and vendors.
- Conduct workplace inspections and implement accident prevention strategies.
- Analyze safety data, injury trends, and workers’ compensation claims to improve workplace safety.
- Collaborate with department leadership and participate in City-wide safety meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Four years of experience in safety program development and safety training.
- A master’s degree in safety may substitute for two years of experience.
- Valid Minnesota Class D driver’s license (or equivalent out-of-state license).
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workplace safety practices, and employee training.
