Position Summary
The United States Postal Service is seeking Rural Carrier Associates (RCAs) to provide mail delivery and customer service along designated rural routes in the Apple Valley area. This role involves delivering and collecting mail, selling postal products, maintaining route records, and ensuring reliable service to customers. Rural Carrier Associates work primarily on Saturdays and provide coverage for regular carriers as needed. This position requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks while maintaining excellent customer service and mail security standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Sort mail in delivery sequence for assigned routes.
• Load, transport, and deliver mail and packages using a vehicle.
• Collect outgoing mail from customer mailboxes.
• Obtain signatures and manage accountable mail items.
• Sell stamps, money orders, and other postal products.
• Accept certified, registered, insured, and COD mail.
• Maintain route records, customer information, and address changes.
• Prepare daily trip reports and delivery documentation.
• Conduct route surveys and other assigned postal duties.
• Maintain inventory of stamps and postal supplies.
• Ensure mail security and confidentiality at all times.
• Provide courteous and professional customer service.
Qualifications & Requirements
• High school diploma preferred.
• Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to successfully complete the USPS Virtual Entry Assessment (MC 474).
• Ability to pass required USPS training and performance evaluations.
• Ability to lift and handle mail and parcels weighing up to 70 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work outdoors for extended periods.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
• Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when interacting with customers.
• Reliable transportation; some routes may require use of a personal vehicle.
