Role Overview
Metro State University is seeking a full-time Reference and Instruction Librarian within the Library and Information Services Department. This fixed-term, 3-year, 9-month faculty position begins August 17, 2026.
The Library supports teaching, learning, and lifelong education through reference services, information literacy instruction, research assistance, and student-centered programming. The librarian will collaborate with students, faculty, and community members while promoting equitable access to information and academic success through in-person, online, and hybrid services.
Responsibilities
- Provide information literacy instruction, including possible evening and weekend work.
- Deliver reference and research assistance services to students, faculty, and community members.
- Serve as a liaison to assigned academic programs and departments.
- Select and manage print and electronic library resources.
- Teach credit-bearing courses, course-integrated instruction sessions, and one-on-one research consultations.
- Support student growth and development through advising and academic assistance.
- Participate in scholarly activity, research, creative achievement, and professional development.
- Contribute service to the university and broader community.
- Promote equitable, student-centered education practices that support diverse learners.
- Develop and support learning environments across in-person, online, and hybrid modalities.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution required by August 17, 2026.
- Knowledge of current methodologies in reference services, research assistance, and information literacy instruction.
- Experience providing user-centered research and reference support.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with culturally, economically, and linguistically diverse populations.
- Interest or expertise in accessibility, usability, institutional repositories, artificial intelligence, Open Educational Resources, or other emerging academic library technologies preferred.
- Preferred experience in academic libraries, online instruction, information literacy teaching, online tutorial development, culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-racist pedagogy, and universal design.
Payment
Salary starts at approximately $65,000 annually and is commensurate with education and experience according to the Inter Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement.
Schedule
- Full-time, fixed-term faculty appointment for 3 years.
- 9-month annual schedule.
- May require evening and weekend work.
- Position start date: August 17, 2026.
