This position serves as an internal expert resource for clinicians by providing education, training, auditing, and feedback on medical documentation and coding practices. The role focuses on ensuring accurate coding, compliance with regulations, and proper reimbursement while supporting physicians and clinical staff. The Coding & Documentation Educator works closely with leadership and providers to improve documentation quality, analyze data, and develop training materials, while acting as a subject matter expert across multiple medical specialties.
Responsibilities
- Provide training, consultation, and feedback to clinicians on coding and documentation practices
- Conduct medical record audits to ensure compliance with coding regulations and organizational standards
- Analyze coding and documentation data, communicate findings, and support improvement efforts
- Develop and maintain educational materials, training programs, and presentations
- Serve as a subject matter expert in diagnosis coding, surgical coding, and evaluation & management services
- Provide support through phone calls, virtual sessions, site visits, and written resources
- Collaborate with clinical managers and coding leadership teams
- Create provider-specific tip sheets and deliver group or individual training sessions
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and proper reimbursement practices
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum 6 years of professional coding experience with complex service lines
- Additional experience in auditing, evaluation & management coding, and multi-specialty coding
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience presenting training and education to providers or clinical teams
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data management tools
- Required certification (one of the following): RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPMA, or CPC
- Epic certification preferred
- Ability to obtain specialty certifications within 2 years

Location: Rochester, MN (Remote Eligible)
Salary: $72,758 – $101,816 per year
