Role Overview

The Minnesota Veterans Home – Hastings Domiciliary is hiring a part-time temporary Cook to prepare high-quality meals while maintaining hygiene, safety, and sanitation standards for residents, staff, volunteers, and guests.

The Hastings Domiciliary is an independent living community serving Veterans through supportive clinical, mental health, chemical health, and physical wellness programs. The campus provides a collaborative and growth-focused work environment located on a scenic 128-acre property overlooking the Vermillion River.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals for residents, staff, volunteers, and guests.
• Maintain food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards throughout meal preparation and service.
• Use large-scale cooking methods and equipment to prepare meals for a high volume of individuals.
• Adjust recipes and food quantities based on service needs.
• Prepare meals that meet special medical diet requirements.
• Assist with inventory, stocking, and kitchen organization as needed.
• Support a safe and respectful environment for Veterans and vulnerable adults.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of large-scale cooking methods and commercial kitchen equipment.
• Understanding of food values, nutrition, and standard recipe preparation.
• Knowledge of health and safety procedures related to food preparation and meal service.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to prepare special medical diets.
• Preferred experience in healthcare, long-term care, or senior care cooking environments.
• Preferred experience with inventory management and stocking.
• Experience working with vulnerable adults and maintaining confidentiality preferred.
• Experience working with Veterans preferred.

Payment

Hourly pay range: $21.41 – $29.22 per hour.

Schedule

• Part-time temporary position.
• Minimum of 48 hours per two-week pay period.
• Additional hours may be available based on operational needs.
