About the Opportunity
Knutson Construction is seeking an experienced MEP Director to provide leadership and technical expertise across all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) aspects of commercial construction projects. This senior leadership role is responsible for developing MEP strategies, overseeing system design and installation, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing budgets and schedules, and building organizational MEP capabilities. The MEP Director serves as a key resource for project teams, clients, designers, and subcontractors while driving innovation, quality, safety, and operational excellence across the company’s construction portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion Knutson’s Zero Incident Safety Culture and promote safe MEP construction practices.
- Lead MEP planning, design review, construction execution, commissioning, and project closeout activities.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, project teams, and trade partners to integrate MEP systems effectively.
- Provide technical expertise during project pursuits, estimating, preconstruction, and client presentations.
- Oversee MEP scopes of work, procurement strategies, and subcontractor coordination.
- Manage MEP project budgets, cost controls, pricing databases, and value-engineering initiatives.
- Monitor construction progress, quality standards, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation efforts.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for MEP-related project issues and solutions.
- Lead negotiations involving MEP pricing, change orders, and equipment procurement.
- Build, mentor, and develop MEP teams while expanding organizational capabilities and industry partnerships.
- Research and implement innovative technologies, sustainability initiatives, and emerging industry best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of commercial mechanical, electrical, construction, design, or MEP-focused project management experience.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Experience leading MEP efforts on large and complex commercial construction projects.
- Strong background in project planning, budgeting, procurement, scheduling, quality control, and risk management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to travel regularly to project sites and industry events.
- Preferred certifications include:
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- LEED Accreditation
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- BICSI Certification
- OSHA-30
- Experience in healthcare, education, and science & technology construction sectors preferred.
