This role leads mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) strategy and execution across construction projects, ensuring systems are designed, installed, and delivered according to specifications, budgets, schedules, and regulations.

The position provides technical leadership while collaborating with project teams, trade partners, and clients to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Safety Management
  • Promote and support a zero-incident safety culture
  • Oversee safety standards for MEP construction activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations such as OSHA, NFPA, and ASHRAE
  • Participate in required safety training


Design and Planning

  • Collaborate with design teams to integrate MEP systems with overall project design
  • Review and guide MEP designs and specifications
  • Support project pursuits and client interviews with technical expertise
  • Coordinate with preconstruction teams on cost analysis and estimating
  • Develop scopes of work for MEP bid packages and equipment
  • Provide solutions to design and budget challenges


Project Leadership and Oversight

  • Lead MEP efforts from design through project completion
  • Ensure compliance with contracts, codes, and regulations
  • Provide direction to MEP teams, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Monitor project progress and resolve issues related to schedule, quality, and compliance
  • Manage risk throughout the project lifecycle
  • Lead negotiations related to pricing and change orders


Budget and Cost Management

  • Develop and manage MEP project budgets
  • Oversee procurement of materials and subcontractors
  • Monitor deliveries and ensure quality standards are met
  • Track and update pricing data
  • Identify cost-saving methods and value-added solutions


Coordination and Communication

  • Coordinate MEP systems with other construction activities
  • Serve as the main contact for MEP-related issues
  • Communicate with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Advise on logistics, planning, and procurement
  • Collaborate across departments to enhance MEP capabilities
  • Provide updates to leadership and project teams


Quality Control

  • Ensure MEP systems meet quality and compliance standards
  • Participate in pre-work meetings and inspections
  • Conduct site inspections and address deficiencies


Team Leadership

  • Build and develop a high-performing MEP team
  • Hire, train, and mentor staff
  • Manage team performance and provide coaching
  • Support innovation and implementation of new technologies
  • Develop relationships with subcontractors and industry partners
  • Represent the company in the AEC industry


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and codes
  • Proven experience leading MEP efforts on large projects
  • Strong risk management and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in commercial construction planning and execution
  • Knowledge of construction processes, cost, schedule, safety, and quality
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to travel to job sites regularly


Preferred Qualifications:

Professional certifications such as LEED, PE, CEM, PMP, BSI, BICSI, or OSHA-30

Experience in healthcare, education, or science and technology sectors


Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

Minimum of 10 years of experience in MEP construction, design, or project management

Location: Minneapolis, MN

Salary: $150,000 to $200,000
