Position Summary

Ramsey County Attorney’s Office is seeking a Legal Secretary (Legal Assistant) to provide administrative and legal support within its legal divisions. Current openings are available in the Pretrial Justice Division, Civil Commitment Unit, and Youth Justice and Wellness Division. This role supports attorneys and legal staff through document preparation, court filings, case management, scheduling, records maintenance, and communication with courts and partner agencies. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.


Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, proofread, and edit legal documents, correspondence, motions, petitions, subpoenas, contracts, briefs, and other legal materials.
• File legal documents electronically with courts and coordinate service of legal process.
• Schedule court hearings, depositions, and related legal proceedings.
• Maintain, organize, image, and index legal files and records.
• Record court hearings and manage case information within legal file systems.
• Contact public agencies, medical providers, and other entities to obtain information relevant to legal proceedings.
• Prepare reports, statistical data, invoices, and billing documentation.
• Create and maintain trial notebooks and legal case materials.
• Provide information regarding court appearances and case scheduling.
• Assist attorneys and legal staff with administrative and case support functions.
• Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling sensitive legal information.


Qualifications & Requirements

• Associate degree in Legal Secretarial Studies, Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
• Equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficiency with legal documents, court procedures, and case management systems is preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, court personnel, and community partners.


Preferred Experience

• Experience in a legal office or court environment.
• Knowledge of criminal, juvenile, or civil court procedures.
• Experience scheduling hearings and managing legal case files.
• Familiarity with legal document preparation and electronic filing systems.
• Ability to work effectively in high-volume environments with shifting priorities.
