About the Role
The City of Saint Paul is seeking an Intergovernmental Relations Associate to support Mayor Melvin Carter’s administration by advancing the City’s legislative and policy priorities. This role focuses on government relations, legislative advocacy, policy analysis, and building relationships with elected officials and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Advocate for the City’s legislative priorities at the local, state, and federal levels.
- Monitor legislation, committee activity, and policy developments.
- Draft legislative communications, correspondence, and briefing materials.
- Build relationships with elected officials, agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Coordinate meetings, testimony, and public engagement efforts.
- Research and track state and federal funding opportunities.
- Staff the Mayor at community events and Capitol functions.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, Communications, Urban Studies, Law, or a related field.
- Experience in legislative affairs, government relations, lobbying, policy analysis, or a closely related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of legislative processes and public policy.
- Excellent organizational and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
