Interfaith Action of Greater Saint Paul
Family Advocate-Evenings provide respectful hospitality, support, and resources to help families achieve long-term success. They create and maintain a safe, caring shelter environment.
Primary duties include interacting with guest families, distributing supplies, monitoring cleanliness and safety, cleaning after dinner, setting out snacks, and guiding volunteers.
Project Home operates as an essential service regardless of weather or emergencies.
This position reports to the Shelter Manager-Night.
Responsibilities:
- Hospitality
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants
- Serve as first point of contact for emergencies and urgent questions
- Conduct regular walk-throughs of shelter common areas and address issues
- Perform daily safety checks and resolve concerns
- Ensure immediate clean-up and disinfection of bodily fluids
- Clean and organize communal office spaces
- Assist with meal and snack preparation, setup, and cleanup
Positive Participant Relationships
- Build relationships with participants to identify needs and provide support and referrals
- Ensure children are properly supervised by parents or guardians
- Organize birthday and holiday celebrations
- Identify and share helpful community resources
- Plan and implement educational and recreational activities
- Provide regular respite time for parents
- Address conflicts and resolve issues as they arise
- Document and report incidents and safety concerns
- Maintain professional boundaries with participants, staff, and volunteers
- Ensure confidentiality of all participant and program information
Program Administration
- Build and maintain positive relationships with staff and volunteers
- Collaborate with families and team members to plan programming
- Attend required staff, agency, and community meetings
- Participate in training to improve skills and knowledge
- Assist in developing and updating program policies and procedures
- Support special events when needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Work a regular schedule including weekends and holidays
- Experience in family social services and knowledge of local resources preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment
- Strong listening, communication, time management, and organizational skills
- Must be dependable, professional, and maintain appropriate boundaries
- Ability to demonstrate patience, understanding, and fairness
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and climb stairs regularly
- CPR, First Aid, and Mental Health First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within one year
- Commitment to the mission of Interfaith Action of Greater Saint Paul
Pay Type: Hourly
Compensation: $16.50
