About the Role

Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute (PPGJLI) is seeking an Editor Intern to support youth writing competitions and literacy initiatives. This remote internship offers the opportunity to help young writers develop their voices while gaining hands-on editorial and nonprofit publishing experience. Interns complete 60 service hours per semester and receive a $500 stipend upon successful completion of program requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, edit, and organize submissions for youth writing competitions.
• Provide editorial feedback on student essays, fiction, poetry, and other writing.
• Help prepare competition announcements, guidelines, and promotional materials.
• Assist with creating certificates, press releases, and author spotlights.
• Support blogs, newsletters, and social media highlighting young authors.
• Compile and edit writing samples for publication or showcase events.
• Contribute to additional literacy and storytelling initiatives.

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate.
• Strong writing, editing, and grammar skills.
• Experience in creative writing, journalism, publishing, or English is a plus.
• Proficiency with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and editing tools.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently.
• Passion for literacy, youth development, and educational equity.
• Comfortable working remotely in a collaborative environment.

Service Leadership Project

Each intern will lead a community service project during the semester, such as:

• Organizing a local writing workshop.
• Hosting a youth author showcase.
• Promoting a youth writing competition within their community.
