St. Paul & Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (SPIP)

The St. Paul & Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project (SPIP) is seeking a full-time Domestic Violence Legal Advocate to support victims and survivors of domestic violence through legal advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, and ongoing support services.

Founded in 1984, SPIP is a leader in providing domestic violence intervention services and building community-wide responses to protect victims and families while working to end domestic abuse. This role works closely with participants navigating criminal justice systems, family court matters, and protective order processes while helping strengthen partnerships across community and government agencies.


Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advocacy and support to participants involved in the criminal justice system.
  • Assist participants with Orders for Protection and family court issues.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support services.
  • Offer transitional and ongoing advocacy support to participants.
  • Provide both face-to-face and remote advocacy services.
  • Assist with 24-hour crisis line victim services and on-call advocacy support.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation, records, and case management information.
  • Participate in trainings, community outreach, education events, and agency initiatives.
  • Support program growth, development, and collaboration with community and government partners.
  • Contribute to a positive, mission-driven team environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by victims of domestic violence.
  • Experience working with victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault preferred.
  • Understanding of and experience working with culturally diverse communities.
  • Ability to provide respectful, supportive, non-judgmental services.
  • Strong multitasking, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance required.
  • Must successfully complete a background check.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience working within criminal or civil justice systems, client database experience, mental health support experience, community education or training experience, and ability to speak Somali, Hmong, or Karen.
  • Applicants may not reside with someone who has committed domestic abuse or sexual abuse within the past 10 years or who has been legally designated a predatory offender.


Payment

  • Starting pay: $22.00 per hour.
  • Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, disability insurance, and generous paid time off.


Schedule

  • Full-time position.
  • Primarily weekday hours with occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call advocacy responsibilities.
  • On-call services may be completed remotely from the employee’s home.
