Position Summary

Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office is seeking Correctional Officers to help maintain safety, security, and order within the Ramsey County Law Enforcement Center. This role is responsible for supervising residents, monitoring behavior, enforcing facility rules and regulations, responding to emergencies, and supporting daily operations within the correctional facility. Correctional Officers play a critical role in maintaining a secure environment while fostering professional communication and accountability with residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise residents during meals, recreation, work assignments, and visitation activities.
• Conduct security checks of buildings and grounds.
• Search residents, living quarters, and work areas for contraband and prohibited items.
• Monitor, document, and report resident behavior and unusual incidents.
• Enforce facility rules, regulations, and disciplinary procedures.
• Respond to emergencies, including fights, medical situations, fires, and suicide prevention incidents.
• Administer first aid, medications, and treatments as directed by medical personnel.
• Process resident admissions, releases, bookings, and orientations.
• Secure resident property and issue clothing and housing assignments.
• Staff control centers and monitor facility movement when assigned.
• Maintain accurate records and reports.
• Work rotating shifts and mandatory overtime as required to maintain staffing and safety standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Any combination of work experience and post-secondary education totaling two years.
• Ability to work in a secure correctional environment.
• Strong communication, observation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and reports.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as needed.
• Successful completion of background screening and hiring requirements.
