Compensation: $120,000 - $180,000 annually
Position Summary
Aspen Waste Systems is seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel to serve as a key member of the senior management team and provide legal guidance across all divisions of the company. Based at the company’s Minneapolis headquarters, this role oversees a wide range of legal matters including employment law, compliance, contracts, litigation management, corporate transactions, and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate will combine strong legal expertise with a practical business mindset to support Aspen’s continued growth while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary legal advisor for all company legal affairs.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships across departments.
• Provide legal guidance on employment law matters, HR processes, and employee benefits.
• Advise operations teams on compliance, training, and legal issues.
• Draft, review, revise, and negotiate contracts and corporate agreements.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting company operations.
• Ensure privacy policies and cybersecurity compliance measures remain current.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, investments, and divestitures in collaboration with outside counsel.
• Manage litigation matters, including workers’ compensation and liability claims.
• Identify legal risks and develop practical solutions to support business objectives.
• Collaborate with leadership to develop legal strategies that support company growth.
• Coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
• Minimum of three years of legal experience.
• Employment law experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of corporate, employment, compliance, and contract law.
• Ability to build effective relationships across all levels of an organization.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
• Experience managing legal risk while supporting business objectives.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
