Overview

Coordinates programming, staffing, and operations for the University of Minnesota Writing Center, supporting writing consultations and student engagement services across the university.


Pay

$62,000–$85,000 annually


Schedule

Full-time

10-month appointment plus 1 month summer appointment

Onsite with limited hybrid flexibility


Responsibilities

  • Develops and leads Writing Center programming focused on student needs, including GenAI, first-year writing, and multilingual writers.
  • Builds partnerships and communication strategies to increase student engagement, visibility, and accessibility of Writing Center services.
  • Oversees consultation schedules, service implementation, staffing plans, and operational workflows.
  • Collects and evaluates usage and service data to improve accessibility, capacity, and overall effectiveness.
  • Supervises graduate and undergraduate consultants, including hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Maintains consultant policies, procedures, and inclusive practices that support accessibility and equity.
  • Participates directly in writing consultations and ongoing professional development related to writing pedagogy and student support.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of related experience OR master’s degree plus 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience in writing centers or student support services.
  • Leadership experience involving strategic planning, budgets, or evaluation data.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility in supporting diverse student writers.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, or training graduate and undergraduate student employees.
  • Strong communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in writing studies, rhetoric, technical communication, literacy education, or related field.
  • Experience with writing instruction technologies and language learner support.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and presenting qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Knowledge of writing pedagogy and writing center practices.
