Experience the grand finale of the Metropolitan Opera’s 2025–26 Live in HD season with El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, a visually rich and emotionally powerful new opera by acclaimed composer Gabriela Lena Frank. 

This magical-realist production brings to life the legendary relationship between Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Set against the backdrop of the Day of the Dead, the story follows Frida’s return from the underworld as she reunites with Diego, revisiting their passionate and complex love before a final farewell. 

Featuring a libretto by Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright Nilo Cruz, this production blends music, storytelling, and vibrant visual inspiration drawn from the artists’ iconic works. Conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and directed/choreographed by Deborah Colker, the opera has been praised for its imaginative score and striking originality.
