Role Overview

Mayo Clinic is seeking a full-time Manager, Communications – Research to lead strategic communications supporting research initiatives across the organization. This role focuses on promoting transformative clinical, biomedical, genomic, and translational research while strengthening collaboration among clinicians, scientists, researchers, and external partners.

The position supports Mayo Clinic’s Bold. Forward. strategy through integrated communication planning, reputation management, staff engagement, thought leadership, and research storytelling. The manager also oversees communication operations, staff or program leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to advance organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic communication plans aligned with Mayo Clinic’s research and organizational goals.
  • Communicate complex scientific and research concepts to diverse audiences including researchers, clinicians, patients, and the public.
  • Create and manage content related to clinical trials, scientific discoveries, research initiatives, and commercialization efforts.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams and leadership to translate research priorities into communication strategies.
  • Support reputation management, thought leadership, crisis response, engagement programs, and communication services.
  • Use digital communication tools, analytics, and data-driven insights to evaluate communication effectiveness.
  • Partner with leadership teams to prioritize operational goals, improve communication services, and maintain high standards of service excellence.
  • Build relationships with executive leadership, staff, government representatives, media, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead staff, programs, committees, task forces, and enterprise workgroups as assigned.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities independently while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or a related field plus at least 5 years of relevant experience required.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and project management skills.
  • Experience developing communication strategies in research, healthcare, academic medical centers, or scientific environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of clinical, biomedical, genomic, translational, or scientific research processes and terminology.
  • Experience communicating scientific information to both technical and public audiences.
  • Understanding of federal research funding, compliance requirements, IRB processes, and grant-related communication preferred.
  • Strong leadership, change management, organizational, and resource management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate ambiguity, and identify solutions proactively.
  • Experience with digital communication tools, analytics, and integrated engagement strategies preferred.

Payment

Annual salary range: $121,846.40 – $176,696.00 per year.

Schedule

  • Full-time exempt position.
  • 80 hours per pay period.
  • Monday through Friday business hours.
  • Occasional weekend work as needed.
  • Hybrid work arrangement available.

Location

Primary preference is Rochester, Minnesota.
