Role Overview

Mayo Clinic is seeking a full-time Journeyworker Electrician to support the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems and infrastructure across Mayo Clinic facilities in Rochester, Minnesota. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe and reliable electrical operations for healthcare environments while supporting emergency power systems, lighting, HVAC equipment, and building infrastructure.

The electrician will work closely with facilities and maintenance teams, provide rotating on-call support, and ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, National Electrical Code requirements, and healthcare regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair electrical equipment and building electrical infrastructure.

Perform electrical installations under the direction of the Electrical Master of Record.

Replace and troubleshoot electrical equipment, controls, lighting systems, motors, and emergency power distribution systems.

Support HVAC, plumbing, electronics, and conveyance shops with diagnostics and electrical repairs.

Provide rotating 24/7 on-call support for building infrastructure and emergency electrical systems.

Use diagnostic tools including digital multimeters, power analyzers, and circuit tracers.

Perform testing and maintenance of emergency and life safety systems to ensure compliance with National Electrical Code and Joint Commission/CMS requirements.

Document work electronically within maintenance software systems.

Follow safe electrical work practices including Lock-Out Tag Out, Arc Flash, and Confined Space procedures.

Complete preventive maintenance activities according to Mayo Clinic policies and procedures.

Participate in ongoing training to maintain Minnesota electrical licensing requirements.

Work overtime as needed, including unscheduled overtime and occasional duties outside standard job classification.

Qualifications

Two-year technical degree or associate degree in electrical systems, construction, or related field focused on electrical system installation and maintenance

OR

Completion of a four-year electrical apprenticeship program.

Minimum five years of experience with:
Power distribution
Lighting systems
Motors
Electrical controls

Ability to independently troubleshoot energized electrical circuits and system failures.

Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and electrical safety standards required.

Ability to read and create electrical schematics.

Strong communication, teamwork, organizational, and problem-solving skills required.

Must be able to work independently and safely in environments involving:
Electrical shock hazards
Chemical vapors
Confined spaces
Rotating machinery
Fall hazards
Hazardous substances

Minnesota Class “A” Journeyworker Electrician License or “A” Master Electrician License required.

Valid Minnesota driver’s license required.

Healthcare electrical maintenance experience preferred.

Payment

Hourly pay range: $31.65 – $49.10 per hour based on union contract, experience, education, and tenure.

Schedule

Full-time position.

80 hours per pay period.

10-hour shifts from 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Sunday through Wednesday.

Rotating on-call schedule required.

Weekend work includes Sundays from 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Rochester, Minnesota.
